Macworld Day 2

Attended last nights recording of MacBreak Weekly at the 21st Brewery. Really small venue and with the number of people in the crowd it was pretty uncomfortably hot. Met a couple of ScreenCastsOnline viewers from Canada. Some great content though and I'd recommend downloading the show as it had some cool disclosures by David Pogue who is one of the few people outside of Apple to handle the iPhone. Ended up having dinner with Adam Christianson of The Maccast and some of the guys and gals from the local Apple store. Day 2 Rather than walk to the Convention center I tried hopping onto the local Bart transit system. Started the day with a great session by David Pogue and then spent some time traipsing round the show floor. Met up with Byron from TeachMac who showed off the new version of the Teachmac client. I've put some of the free shows onto Teachmac and have a ScreenCastsOnline library on there. Also met with Ken Ray of the MacOS Ken Podcast. Andy Ihnatko gave a great session on "500 things to do with your Mac before you die" but only got to about 8 before his session finished - looking forward to the other 492 sometime. I also met up with Chuck Joiner from MacNotables and MacVoices and sat in on his session on MUGs. I'm really envious of these people who can stand up and talk for 60 minutes without any prompting! I don't think I'll be able to do a normal show this week so I'll probably just upload some video clips from Day 1 later today. I'll do an extra special show next week - honest! As an aside, I was sitting next to Apples Principal Research Scientist and Manager for Spoken language Technologies at Apple - Kim Silverman. He seemed really interested in ScreenCastsOnline and I may hook up with him after the show to explore doing some screencasts on the spoken language technologies in Tiger (and hopefully in Leopard when it's available) More networking tonight as I've been invited to the Cirque de Mac event hosted by the Mac Geek Gab guys. Dave Hamilton was kind enough to give me a couple of tickets to the event which seems to be one of the hot tickets in town. There's a Mac band made up of various luminaries playing live. Should be cool! Looking forward to tomorrow night as there is a Mac Podcaster Meetup at the Apple store and there is a veritable who's who of mac podcasters in attendance. It's open to everyone so if you're in the vicinity pop along!

Ahem, What Did I Say Back in September 2006

Never one to blow my own trumpet but I suggest you check out a post I made back in September 2006. All correct except for the Hard Disk I think you'll find :-) Well if I don't point it out, no-one else will. Original Post

Ilife & iWork Linked to Leopard?

Following my recent post about the no show of ilife 07 and iWork 07. Someone has suggested that they may well be Leopard dependent applications and so will be released when Leopard is. That would seem to be logical as a number of third party apps have already announced they would be using some of the Leopard only technology so it figures Apple might do the same. Also talk of an iPhone without the phone bit possibly in the works ie Just the widescreen ipod. Not too sure myself! Off to the MacBreak Weekly recording shortly (and wrap up party). Think I might leave some of the kit behind tomorrow and do the show floor more thoroughly. It's a hard life but someone's got to do it!

In the Expo

showsmall.jpg

Well the keynote is over and I've had a mooch around. Currently sitting in the Microsoft Bloggers Lounge (!) Nice big chairs, power and wired ethernet. I've uploaded a few pics to flickr and inserted a new Macworld 2007 fickr badge in the sidebar. First impressions of the Keynote. The iPhone blew me away and I had visions of queuing up at the Apple store and bringing one home until they announced the availability. Q4 for Europe - Nooooo!!!! I didn't see the demo in the keynote but there are some demos at the show and it looks superb. Strictly no hands on yet though. The only two you can get up close to are in glass cases with security. Check out the flickr badge. Apple TV was somewhat over shadowed by the iPhone but there are some on display and I'll get up close and personal with them soon. The Expo is a lot bigger than I anticipated so it's going to take a couple of days to cover it fully. The big question though is what was missing: No Quad Mac Pros No iLife 07 No iWork 07 No new spreadsheet WTF! The expo still has Ilfe 06 and iTunes and iPod Apple demos but as you can imaging, there is not many queues around those! I hope we can expect some more announcements in the next few months - the next few days would be preferable. Think I'll go off to see the MacBreak Weekly show being recorded tonight. I'll take my camera. Off for some grub.

Starbucks it is then!

DSC00155.jpgAh Well, I know to get a Conference ticket next time. So I'm actually sitting in the Starbucks next to Mosone West waiting for the keynote to start. It could be worse. I've got a nice hot coffee and the internet access is fine. I'll probably be following via MacRumors coverage which is second to none. If anyone is reading this inside the hall and takes pity on me who has a spare VIP pass, if you want to come and get me, I'm the guy with the MBP and the green checked shirt ;-)
