Bill Gates Loses it! Totally!

Nowadays, security guys break the Mac every single day.

Every single day, they come out with a total exploit, your machine can be taken over totally. I dare anybody to do that once a month on the Windows machine. So, yes, it took us longer, and they had what we were doing, user interface-wise. Let’s be realistic, who came up with [the] file, edit, view, help [menu bar]? Do you want to go back to the original Mac and think about where those interface concepts came from?
So it’s totally according to plan, and that’s why we have the whole Windows Update thing. We made it way harder for guys to do exploits. The number [of violations] will be way less because we’ve done some dramatic things [to improve security] in the code base. Apple hasn’t done any of those things.
Well, certainly we've done a better job letting you upgrade on the hardware than our competitors have done. You can choose to buy a new machine, or you can choose to do an upgrade. And I don't know why [Apple is] acting like it’s superior. I don't even get it. What are they trying to say? Does honesty matter in these things, or if you're really cool, that means you get to be a lying person whenever you feel like it? There's not even the slightest shred of truth to it
If you just want to say, "Steve Jobs invented the world, and then the rest of us came along," that's fine. If you’re interested, [Vista development chief] Jim Allchin will be glad to educate you feature by feature what the truth is.

Ah well, he's probably hyperventilating being caught up in the Vista launch this week. I thought it was Steve Jobs who had a "Reality Distortion Field"!

What it was like at the Vista line at CompUSA at The Apple Blog

So I waited in line at my local CompUSA here in San Diego. I fought the rain, some homeless guys for the free barbecue, and when I got out of my tent at midnight I scooted right to the front of the line. Ha! My early wait paid off and I was in and out of the store like greased lightning.

Wait a second...

When I bought OS X Tiger I seem to remember people at the store. In fact, I remember being there for two hours, giggling like a school girl every time I found a new cool widget....more at theappleblog

Gates on The Daily Show

ds.jpg

Well did you see it? No? Don't worry, you didn't miss much :-( What a wasted opportunity and really, it wasn't even funny. Some of the questions were obviously staged and I'm afraid John Stewart really didn't shine as I thought he would. I sort of knew what was about to unfold as Bill seemed supremely relaxed so I figured everything was pre-agreed. No Hodgman, no reference to Apple, just pretty standard stuff. Did no one think to tell Bill to stay seated at the end - cripes! Ah well! I've done a quick search on YouTube and it's not there yet. Soon will be. Please add a comment if you find a copy on the net!

Parallels Workstation for Mac Beta 2

Wow! This software just gets better and better! I'm now able to boot Windows from my BootCamp partition using Parallels running in OSX. Not only that but Windows apps can now appear in the OSX dock and desktop. You can even run a Windows app from the Dock or OSX Desktop and Parallels will load and start the Windows app in it's own window! Check out this short 5 minute screencast to see it in action:

One of those WTF moments!

Windows 3.1 Add Font Dialog Still In Vista - Bink.nu Forums

Chris Pirillo makes the observation....

.....I wish more people would look past Vista’s translucent veneer to see that it’s nothing more than lipstick on a pig.

Windows Vista: Lipstick on a Pig ~ Chris Pirillo

Oh dear :-( I have to admit that before I switched over to the Mac I used to get really fired up about new Windows releases, heck, I was a beta tester for Windows NT. But I really can't get any enthusiasm going for Vista, it's turning out to be a major embarrasment for MS. I'm sure it will sell oodles of copies on new machines but who is going to want to upgrade their existing setup?
