A Plug For ScreenCastsOnline

videosandboxMy old mucker Frank Petrie (phranky on the ScreenCastsOnline forums) has been kind enough to wax lyrical about ScreenCastsOnline on his video podcast - The Video SandBox. I donated some Extra! memberships for his anniversary show and helped him out to get his YaBB forum on-line (without any strings attached) and Frank has been kind enough to give me an extended plug on his great off the wall weekly video podcast.

How to describe The Video Sandbox with Frank Petrie™. It's not your Dad's idea of a variety show. In fact, it's not yours either. It exists only in MY head. It's sardonic. It's off-the-cuff. It's gelatenous. It's poignant, yet in many, many ways profoundly ignorant. It's green, yet somehow blue. It is anything that I want it to be. It is anything that you want it to be.
Here's a link to the show on iTunes or checkout his website. Check out "Episode 57: Some Episode" at about 15 minutes in. Thanks Frank! PS A ScreenCastsOnline Extra! membership is only $35 for 6 months not $35 each month

Whoo Hoo! - My Own Apple Store

Liverpool%20One

Residents of Liverpool (UK) will no longer have to make the 35-mile drive to Manchester to enjoy an Apple store–they’re getting their own next year when the sprawling Liverpool One urban project opens in city center. The project is more than retail, also encompassing 42-acres of residential, office and open space set among five distinctly-designed districts. According to the developer, it’s intended to create, “a new and compact focal point for urban living and leisure in the 21st century Liverpool.” It will be the 14th store in the UK, behind the nine existing and four other planned stores.

Guess where I live! I was in the City Center last week and the amount of building work and re-generation going on down there is absolutely mind boggling! Good to know that a new Apple store will emerge from all of the construction work going on!

Whoops! 10 Days Gap

Is it really 10 days sine I last made a blog post! Doesn't time fly. My only excuse is that I tend to micro blog on twitter. OK, other excuses include being spread too thinly and working on too many things at the same time. I should really resolve to blog at least once a day but I hate making promises I might break. Let's see how it goes.

Lights, Camera, Action

Apple%20-%20NAB%20-%20RegisterJust a reminder that Apple are hosting a special event at the NAB in Las Vegas later today. Speculation is that the new version of Final Cut Studio will be announced but as I've said before, without having Leopard in the wild I'm not sure how FCS can be released as it must surely rely on some of the new features of Leopard. They've already announced the new Mac Pros so what is left to announce? If you want to follow the event live, I suggest using the superb MacRumours Live web page. It's a live blog of the announcements as they are made. I've used it for all the past live events and it's one of the most stable and consistent services available. The event is scheduled for Sunday 15th April, 11am PDT (6pm GMT).

Obligatory Comment On Leopard Delay

Apple%20-%20Apple%20-%20Mac%20OS%20X%20-%20Leopard%20Sneak%20PeekSuprised? Not really. Concerned? Nah! Merlin Mann was on the button when he mentioned this on MacBreak Weekly before the announcement. Kudos Merlin! So what does it all mean? Well, it looks like it's going to take longer than anticipated that's obvious, but I really don't buy the "diversion of programming resources" as the real reason for the delay. My gut feeling is that it probably wouldn't take as long as October to knock Leopard into a releasable state but probably just a month or two extra. But that brings it right up to the iPhone launch. In the same way that the Mac was not mentioned at MacWorld to ensure that the iPhone took center stage, it seems reasonable that Leopard needs to take a backseat whilst the iPhone is rolled out. The iPhone is a landmark product and needs to be done right. Apple can now focus on the iPhone launch without distraction and without dilution. If they get it right, the cash generated by the iPhone will be significantly more than Leopard. But don't worry, once the iPhone is out the door and is flying off the shelves, the Apple machine will turn and bear down on Leopard for the October launch. And they'll meet it! And it will be a polished and stable OS once it's available. But I don't think they'll suffer in the meantime - sure they'll miss some revenue from iWork and iLife not being available but just think of all those people holding out from buying a new Mac before Leopard is available. Had Apple had delayed Leopard til July, then they probably would have waited a bit longer. But wait until October? I would imagine the bulk of those waiting would give in and buy their upgrade or replacement machine now. Plus not forgetting the availability of CS3 which should stimulate a boost in hardware sales from all the Pros who were holding out going to the Intel based platform. Plus the quiet introduction of the Octo Macs for the Pro community. And what on earth are they going to introduce at NAB in a few short days - more stuff for the video pros to buy more software and upgraded Macs! Delay Leopard until October.... a no brainer!
