Hey - I'm in the Movies!

OK, Not really but you knew that anyway! No the reference is with respect to a post I made a few days ago about coverage of the iPhone and an interesting blog post I mentioned. My Google vantity feed picked up the fact that the author of the original post had collected all the various responses to the post and commented on them (Getting a bit circular this!) Anyhow, the reason for my bringing this up is his description of my blog:

Don McAllister's blog, My Own Reality seems to deal with the hollywood/cinema industry.

Eek!! How can someone think my blog is about Hollywood or the Cinema Industry? I can only presume he has assumed ScreenCastsOnline is all about casting in the movie industry - Screen Casting I suppose it's possible but it's a bit late to change my main brand name to something else :-( In case the article generates some traffic this way - ScreenCastsOnline - is all about Mac tutorials delivered as a "ScreenCAst" which is a movie..... Damm! I am in the movies!

The.Point Inception

GourmetSleuth%20-%20Broccoli%20RabeI'm a regular subscriber to "The Point" podcast produced by the extremely knowledgeable Paul Figgiani from New York. Paul covers mainly Apple based post production tools such as Final Cut etc. I met up with Paul at last years Podcast & Portable Media Expo. He was kind enough to give me some great advice on setting up the audio side of ScreenCastsOnline. To be honest, the Podcast isn't out as often as I'd like and had podfaded slightly as Paul is a very busy guy involved with many commercial projects and a senior role in GigaVox Media. Imagine my delight when a new episode popped onto my iPod this morning just before heading out for my morning constitutional. Jumped straight to the podcast and was surprised to find it was only a few minutes long? Wow! Talk about a change of style and the promise of excellent things to come. The new episode is a teaser for what sounds like a ton of stuff that Paul will be covering as part of his exploration of the New Final Cut Studio 2. I have to say that I love the new fresh approach and will be following the new version of The.Point very closely. Way to go Paul! Just one question, what on earth is Broccoli Rabe? Ah! Tasty!

Mind Expanding Weekend

My previous post mentioned the "Singularity" with reference to Ray Kurzweils famous book in passing. I recently subscribed to the excellent "Technology Evangelist" podcast, primarily because it's one of the few podcasts that pushes out excellent material in HD and looks amazing on my Apple TV. Imagine my surprise a few days after my earlier posting when they published a full keynote from Ray Kurzweil from the Killer App Expo in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Ray Kurzweil is a pioneer in the fields of optical character recognition, health, artificial intelligence, transhumanism, technological singularity and futurism. At the Killer App Expo in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Ray gave the evening Keynote speech. We were fortunate enough to have two HD cameras at the conference and grabbed the entire keynote with house audio. Whereas we would normally cut this 80 minute presentation into a 10 to 15 minute chunk, Ray's material was so good, so inspiring that we have decided to leave it complete. If you're an Apple TV user, this is a great bit to watch in full 720p. I hope you enjoy this as much as we did.

I finally got around to watching the full keynote and was blown away if not a little apprehensive of just what the future has in store for us! I really recommend you watch the video. Then I stumbled upon this post by Alan Moore all about the impact that the iPhone is likely to have
Ever since my January keynote on handset design at the big annual 3G event in Tokyo I've mentioned the iPhone in every public presentation. And almost every time I've made the point that June 2007 marks a watershed moment in time. Much like the Western calendar marks time from before and after Jesus Christ, and how the computer world changed totally by the Macintosh - remembering that Windows is Microsoft's copy of the Mac operating system - I am certain that the mobile telecoms world will count its time in two Eras. The Era BI: time Before the iPhone, and the ERA AI: time After the iPhone. What will change? Pretty much everything. And funnily enough, most of it is not actually caused by the iPhone, they only happen to occur so closely to the iPhone, that the iPhone will be given much of the credit.

Pretty stirring stuff indeed! The future looks bright (but not necessarily Orange)!
