Parallels Workstation for Mac Beta 2

Wow! This software just gets better and better! I'm now able to boot Windows from my BootCamp partition using Parallels running in OSX. Not only that but Windows apps can now appear in the OSX dock and desktop. You can even run a Windows app from the Dock or OSX Desktop and Parallels will load and start the Windows app in it's own window! Check out this short 5 minute screencast to see it in action:

Live on the ScobleShow!

Don McAllister shows off Screencasts Online

So it was a little while coming but my interview has now been published on the Scoble Show. This was actually the second take as three quarters through the 1st take, he realised we had no audio! The bit I didn't manage to mention was the success of the sponsorship model when doing sponsored screencasts as vendors are really seeing some benefits in have a whole show about their products as it raises visibility, gives training and reduces support calls. But on the whole, I think it's OK (although I would have done a little bit more editing - Sorry Michael, I knew you're from Denmark - my mind just went blank!). PS I forgot I mentioned the Standard Membership in the Interview but I removed that option several weeks ago so only the Premium Membership option remains - nice and simple

MacHeist - A Potential Unexpected Bonus

rw.pngPutting all controversy aside, it looks like MacHeist has generated $200,000 for charity! Truly outstanding. One of the products included in the promotion was Rapidweaver, one of ScreenCastsOnlines favourite applications. I was reading Daniel Counsells blog today (Daniel is Mr Rapidweaver) who is defending the Macheist guys and mentions some of the benefits of Macheist including the addition of several thousand new users and sales have actually gone up. When I checked on the number of users that had actually purchased the MacHeist bundle I was amazed to see the figure of 16,821! That's 16,821 new users of Rapidweaver. What also struck me was some of the detractors of MacHeist used the fact that the support burden for the developers due to the take on of additional users would be overwhelming. Dans response to this was that they'd only had 2 support emails from users. Now I know that all 16,821 users would not all jump on RW and start using it straight way but the penny dropped! ScreenCastsOnline has been a supporter of RW and has published 6 RW related screencasts. If you go to the Rapidweaver Learning Center you'll find links to all 6 episodes for free download. That's over 3 hours of RW tutorials available for new users which takes them through installation and basic operation, Advanced Functionality (specifically the blog page), Additional Information, A look at the plugins available from YourHead, A look at the eShox eCommerce plugin I wonder if that has anything to do with the low number of support calls :-) Other MacHeist vendors needing some screencasting goodness, please drop me an email! As an aside, quite a few Rapidweaver users have gone on to become ScreenCastsOnline Extra! members after watching the Rapidweaver tutorials so fingers crossed. Another 17,000 ScreenCastsOnline Extra! members would be cool! - Dream on! Technorati Tags: , , , , , ,

ScreenCastsOnline Logo

scologo100x100.jpgAs I look at all the cool app logos in the MacSanta promotion, I realise mine looks pretty dull in comparison :-( Any graphics whizz kids out there want to try and create a more Mac like logo?

MacSanta is Snowballing - Ouch!

macsanta.pngFollowing on from the extremely successful (albeit controversial) recent MacHeist promotion, the chaps over at Rogue Amoeba have decided to spread a little bit of Xmas cheer by gathering together some Mac developers and creating MacSanta. Pretty simple really, every vendor that signs up offers their products with 20% off up until 25th December 2006. No middle man, no fixed fee, all the cash goes to the vendor themselves. Every vendor uses the coupon code MACSANTA and you get 20% the total price. Since the launch yesterday, the scheme has now extended to an amazing 62 offers and I'm please to say the ScreenCastsOnline is now one of them :-) You can checkout the MacSanta website for a full list of offers or even better, as new offers are being added all the time, you can subscribe to the RSS feed. So if there is someone you think would benefit from a ScreenCastsOnline membership this Xmas, just point them in the direction of the Extra! information page and tell them to use MACSANTA as the coupon code to get a full Premium Extra! membership for $28 instead of the usual $35. Merry Xmas!
