What a damm fine idea!

Based on the interest that exists for viewing Jobs' presentations, adding that feature alone would sell more Apple TVs, set a precedent, and also allow Apple to test delivery of live content. (Of course, Apple TV owners would also be able to watch the keynotes after the fact; streamed at their convenience like the movie trailers.)

Excellent idea by Steve Jack over at MAcDailyNews! Trying to keep up with a Stevenote via live blogging is an amazingly frustrating experience and even now, we still only get a recorded stream several hours later. There's usually no option to download this to the Apple TV. How fantastic would it be to have it streamed live to the Apple TV - we can but dream!

Back From My Travels

Back in the UK after a family holiday to Tunisia. Weather - Great Food - Great People - Great Accommodation - Great Internet Access - OMG! The worse possible experience of trying to keep up with mail and the blogosphere. It was frankly impossible although I suppose it was a good experience to allow me to appreciate just how well connected I am at home. Basically, the Internet Cafe at the hotel was 4 really old Windows PCs (with 3 switched off permanently switched off) running Windows XP. Add in the fact that you had to use IE (installed with every third party toolbar ever invented installed) plus it was running over dial up, made the Internet not a very nice place to be. So in the end I just gave up! I probably spent no more than 30 minutes online the whole week - a very weird experience indeed, especially when you make your living online. Ah well, back home now and back to normal.

Grrrr!!!!!

Just popped into my local PC World on the off chance they might have a new iMac on display as I've not be able to spare the time to visit an Apple store. Lo and behold - they did! Gorgeous looking thing, the keyboard seems nice and responsive and the glossy screen looks fab! A very impressive looking beast indeed! So I steps up to give it a try and what do I find.....

  • Mighty Mouse right button not configured so a PC user won't have a clue.
  • The desktop is completely bare except for a single hard disk icon labelled "a"
  • No Dock - Dock has been hidden - WTF!
So anyone just walking up to the iMAc will find a blank screen, no icons, no applications, nothing - nada! Do these people actually want to sell Apple stuff? Even being an experienced Mac user, I had to scratch my head for a minute on how to put things right. I few minutes later I had the Mouse working, the dock visible and it actually looked like there was something installed on the machine. I despair sometimes!

Spaces?

Apple%20-%20Mac%20OS%20X%20Leopard%20-%20Features%20-%20SpacesYou know, the more I think about it, even with a large monitor and multiscreen setup, Spaces within Leopard is exactly what I need to stop this constant re-positioning and resizing of windows. I just hope you can save the Spaces configuration to include the open windows - that would be awesome

Circus Ponies

PicturesqueAs an added service, if anyone sponsors the show I sometimes come to an arrangement whereby I'll take the original show, remove the ScreenCastsOnline branding and chop it up into smaller pieces so the vendor can host it on their website. You may have seen that I did this for the guys (and gals) over at the OmniGroup with OmniGraffle, OmniOutliner and OmniPlan. Well, Circus Ponies NoteBook can now be added to the list as I've done the same for that. Check out the animated openings I did using Motion! Thanks to Jayson for supporting ScreenCastsOnline in this way and I have to say, I like the presentation of the videos on the website. I'll have to check that out!
