Mail.app for me

It’s not lost on me either that the first thing I tried to do with Gmail is hook Outlook up to it. I can’t stand using the Web browser for email. And I have both the beta of the new Hotmail as well as Google’s new corporate Gmail and Maryam uses Yahoo’s email (formerly Oddpost). These are the three leading web-based email systems. I know many of you are OK with reading your email on the Web, but I’m too used to having my email offline. It gives me peace of mind to know I’m in control of my access to my email.

Scobleizer - Tech Geek Blogger » Why Ozzie doesn’t think the Web is the be all and end all

Much as I love Gmail I have to agree with scoble that I need to process my mail off-line and have a real problem with the gmail web interface. I get all my gmail delivered into Apples mail.app where I filter and process using multiple rules and create lots of new mailboxes and smart mailboxes to organise my mail.

I just like it that way!

"Fork Handles, no, Fork Handles, Handles for Forks!"

A spokeswoman for Apple Computer on Friday said she was recently misquoted in a comment on the life-span of the company's iPod digital music players.Earlier this week, Chicago Tribune quoted Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris as saying iPods have a relatively low failure rate and that they are designed to last "four years."However, Kerris in a statement to the iLounge on Friday said she was misquoted. The Apple spokeswoman said she told the reporter that the iPod was designed to last "for years," not "four years."

Sorry, bit of UK based humour there!

Brand Confusion

I'm a great fan of 37Signals and love all their products especially Basecamp which I did a screencast on not too long ago.. I also like the minimalist style of their website. Just notice a new startup with some startling similarities on their website: BoxCloud..... BaseCamp... BoxCloud.... Basecamp looks like..... Update: Ash from BoxCloud has taken the time to respond to the original posting with an explanation for the similarities and announcing they are doing a complete redesign of the site. I've removed my potentally imflamatory comments in response to him stepping up to the mark and fixing the problem.

SCO Not Nominated in Podcast 2006 Awards

Controversial statement suitable for quoting: The 2006 Podcast Awards are now even less meaningful than the Miss America Pageant.

The 2006 Podcast Awards illustrates why popularity contests will not be meaningfull for podcasts, or video casts, or blogs, and I don’t envy the Todd and the Podcast Connect folks. Last year’s Podcast Awards was more like a Peer-Review Awards because you (as a listener) had at least heard of nearly all of the nominees! After last year’s awards show, no self-respecting podcaster could really argue against any of the winners. Now in 2006, there are too many podcasts and too few objective voters to even pretend that “number of votes” for a podcast correlates to “how much I should care” about a podcast.

I don’t mean that there should be fewer podcasts, or that the “podcasting space” is getting too crowded - I mean that the 2006 Podcast Awards contest is now meaningless.

Phew!

I'm with you Scott ;-)

Seriously, thanks to those that did nominate ScreenCastsOnline
