Rumours and damned rumours...

Blogosphere full of rumours about Apple updating the MacBook Air yesterday, but more interestingly, preparing to launch a new 27" Cinema Display based on the iMac 27" screen.
Didn't happen!
That's not to say it may happen over the next few days but the rumours were pretty strong.
I'm still scratching my head as to why Apple have not refreshed their 30" Cinema Display for years? It was launched in 2004 for goodness sake!!
The panel technology is pretty old and the styling is also looking pretty dated and certainly doesn't fit in with the current range. Then there's the price! $1799 for a six year old design and technology.
And what about the complete lack of ergonomics - you can tilt it in the vertical plane and that's about it.
I really do find this to be a weird anomaly in Apple's usually extremely well thought out range of products.

The ACDs are good screens, though overpriced due to being extremely overdue a refresh.
I'd imagine Apple are itching to get the iMac type screens in larger sizes - but its waiting for manufacturers to be able to make them so big? Remember that the 27 inch iMac currently at launch was one of the biggest of that type of screen available (and definitely a steal for the screen you're getting).
Once they can, i'd imagine you'll see an iMac style 30 inch equivalent with a VESA mount or similar with all the tilt you want. I'd imagine unless you had a mount attached - you would only want tilt in directions where any tilt had the screen stable at all times?
Wrong rumours seem to be injected fairly frequently by those wanting to financially profit (as traders have acknowledged in the past).
I agree that the 30" cinema display is way overdue a refresh, but I guess some people are still buying them at that price/feature set. Either that or Apple have got a major stock surplus of them, but I can't imagine that is the case.
I agree. Though I have a 30" screen that still works flawless. If it's not broken... ;-)
Wasn’t the Cinema Display updated during the last couple of years? (I don’t mean the design, just the panels)
Regarding the design: the Mac Pro, the MacBook Air and the Cinema Display are all niche hardware products. Apple doesn’t focus so much on redesigning them, because that’s not the most important thing for the target group of these products. On the other side the iMac, the MacBook pro or the smaller Cinema Displays are products for the typical consumer who focuses more on design than pure tech specs.
Perhaps Apple are thinking of an Apple TV integrated into a large screen with decent resolution. Or perhaps apple really are a mobile computing company now and big screens are not on the to do list. It would be hard to leave one in a pub for Gizmodo to find though!
