Light & sporadic...

Well back into the swing of things now and I think I'm just about over the trip!

In case you missed the "live" appearance on MBW, Allison captured some video of the event : http://bit.ly/cxe5Z

Now I'm into organising and planning for the trip in July to China, South Korea and Japan as part of the Mac Mania 09 event. I'm going out ahead of the cruise to take part in the pre-cruise tour which is an week long tour of inland China. This means I'll be away for the best part of two weeks, which equates to three ScreenCastsOnline shows. So in effect, that leaves me with six weeks to prepare and record 9 weekly shows and 6 x 90 minute presentations.

I may even decide to skip a weekly show (or even two) whilst I'm away, as even if I prepare the shows in advance, there is no guarantee I'll be able to publish them on time from such exotic locations?

Do you think people will mind?

It may give people a chance to catch up?

At least I had the good sense to not take on any commissioned work for the same period.

So things are going to get a little busy round here, and you'll have to excuse me if my blogging becomes light and sporadic. Somethings gotta give!

Hi Don,

Personally I don't mind at all. Hey, everyone needs a little vacation / time of the computer sometimes. Just provide us with some pictures so we can enjoy the trip together with you.

Regards,

Stefaan

Hi Don, no problems with you having time off, really. As Stefaan says keep the pictures coming if you can as we enjoy to see what your up to. ;-)

Ditto for me Don - there's so much content on the SCO site, i still haven't seen everything I want to yet after 6 months of membership!

If you need a hand with getting the episodes out, let me know - 'mates rates' apply ;0)

Don,

I would say that all your loyal subscribers would not in the least mind if you took a well deserved break. We will still be here when you get back. If Ryan Seacrest is the hardest working man in Hollywood you are certainly the hardest working podcaster in Liverpool. :-)

Enjoy the cruise and the wonders of the Orient.

Fine by me! I'm sure there'll be some people that will moan that they've paid their sub and yet they won't be getting any new content, but you can't ever please everyone...

Perhaps you could do a couple of "blast from the past" shows where you simply re-publish a particularly interesting old show (that is still up-to-date - i.e. the software or techniques are still valid and current)?

Or... I think ages ago you had a guest provide a show? Perhaps you could get some volunteers to go through their favourite app or something?

Your trip sounds exciting. I think people will understand if you miss a show or three, as long as you post pics. I'm guessing that won't be a problem for you.

Don, take a break! Chill out and enjoy your trip. As you say, it'll give me time to catch up on all those screen casts you've put out already :-)

A little vacation now and then is okay, a break in the shows in fine Don. Have a safe and relaxing trip.

Hi Don, seems that there's a consensus... you could drop a show ( or 2 !? ) as long as you post photos from your trip, keep on blogging - as far as possible ! - and convey ambiances and "snippets" from Mac Mania event...

Don,

If you will be missing shows, why not miss the non-member ones? The people who have paid for subscriptions should get priority over the non-members, I think. Maybe everyone else disagrees with me, but that's my opinion. I echo the request for blog posts, from the trip. I can't ever afford to go on one of those trips myself, but it would be great to hear what goes into one.

Don, certainly no objection from my point of view. Everybody needs a break and maybe you'll even come back refreshed with a renewed sense of vigour, coupled with lots of new Idea's.

No doubt you will be posting the odd photo and tweet when signal allows. That will keep me happy.

Don't mind at all if you skip a show. But would expect at least a postcard! :-)

No I dont mind missing a show or two but i am afraid you are becoming so famous and popular you will have to stop doing these shows altogether sometime soon... Good for you anyway.

Thanks for the vote of confidence but I can't see that ever happening :-) The rest of the stuff supports what I'm doing with ScreenCastsOnline, not the other way round!

Does look like a consensus is forming. At least I've got a month to work out what to do.

I tried the guest thing in the early days but it didn't really work.

I'll have a think but open to ideas.

Hi Don,
As a long time SCO subscriber I would not mind at all. I still revisit previous versions to remind myself of things, so a few weeks off would give me a chance to catch up on a few items. Enjoy the trip and relax for a change.

May 20, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterIan Frost

Don: You should build this into the subscription so that you're promising 48-50 shows a year but get to take a break every once in a while like the rest of working humanity. Wouldn't bother me at all. Quite reasonable, in fact.

I wouldn't go the guest route.

As for the current dilemma, drop 2 shows and enjoy your vacation! I'll miss them, but I can't imagine people with real families and friends and things to do having a problem with this. Maybe you can find a way to make your travels the content of a show somehow.

Cheers

A week or two or three away from SCO releases is fine! Enjoy the trip without the pressure.
