Apple TV Connections?

Hopefully the Apple TV will be with us in a few short weeks.

I know it supports both HDMI and component video for the video signal but it's just struck me that I don't have a spare HDMI or set of component video cables to plug the thing into my TV when it arrives.

I don't have a spare HDMI socket anyway so I'll probably have to go the component route.

Does anyone know if Apple will be providing any cables with the Apple TV or will we need to buy the cables separately?

Update - The Apple TV specs on the Apple Store do not list any cables (other than the power cord so it looks like I'll have to hunt down a set of component video leads)

Be warned.

Update 2 - Looks like the Apple store have a complete range of HDMI, Component and Audio Cables to match the Apple TV available from February, jusy as the Apple Tv hits the streets. Just search for XtremeHD on the Apple store to see the complete range.

Not cheap :-(

Don't forget that unless you're using HDMI to HDMI, you'll need to buy an audio cable as well!

Update 3 - Component video and Audio cables ordered. £4.50 plus vat for both audio and video from CPC in the UK.

Hmm.. looks like a regular set of phono leads would work OK, I guess this must be what you ordered from CPC Don? . And I guess as it's a digital signal presumably for a short run you shouldn't need to use screened cables or 'gold-connectors' and all that gas-filled nonesense?

"Not cheap" you say? I didn't price the component cables, but the XtremeMac HDMI cables on the Apple Store website are a good value. Price a similar set of cables at the big box electronics stores (as I did in my Apple TV blog at http://www.couchapple.com in a recent post) and you'll find that the cables being sold by Apple are a real bargain.

I ordered my HDMI to HDMI cable the same day I ordered my Apple TV, and received the cable yesterday. Now if I just had something to connect it to...

I stand corrected!

I must admit, I did mean the component cables but I'm not really into gold plated connectors etc. Looking at the HDMI cable it does look a good price!

I suppose you get what you pay for as far as build quality and durability go but I doubt the more expensive cables give a significantly better picture quality!

Oh God, what have I started....

No more to say :-)
