Traveling Back To The UK

Saturday 13th - Done the touristy bits today - Walked through Union Sq, China Town, Little Italy and ended up on Fishermans Wharf.

10$ boat trip around the bay, under the Golden gate, around Alcatraz Island and then back to the Hotel clinging onto the side of a Cable car.

Just about to hit the sack in preparation for a 7:30am flight to New York and then across the pond back to Manchester.

Should be back in blighty on Monday morning when hopefully things will get back to normal.

It's been a great trip but I'll be glad to get back home :-)

If there is one thing that has spoilt the overall experience, it's that although San Francisco is a beautiful City (in parts) they really need to sort out the homeless and vagrant population. For a City of this size and obvious prosperity, it's a damming blight on the City and worse than I've ever seen anywhere else.

Glad you liked San Francisco. I take your point on the homeless: did you find them really polite though? I sure found them the nicest people - those in New York and especially Chicago, can come across a bit scary, to say the least!

No more, no less than anywhere else I have to say.

But I still felt uncomfortable enough to have to jump the BART from my Hotel one stop each day rather than wak the 5 or 6 blocks to the Moscone.

Don-
Thanks so much for keeping us informed of your experiences in San Fran. I can remember that the boat trip around the Bay was a highlight for me.

It is a sad state of affairs to have so many people in need in one of the showcase cities of the USA. Here in Denver we are aggressively providing housing, food and counseling to better handle the problem.

I hope, Don, that you and your family will visit Denver one day. We'll show you a good time. (You'll need to wear your cowboy hat and boots of course! You do have cowboy hat and boots.)

Have a safe trip home...

Don't want to make too big a deal about it as downtown wasno where near as bad as close to my Hotel but it was only a few blocks.

I'll be sure to pack my cowboy hat and boots when I visit Denver, thanks for the invite :-)

Actually, it's counter-intuitive. The reason there are so many homeless on the streets of SF is the extremely lavish social services provided there (not to mention insane housing prices). In fact, it's a GOOD place to be homeless, as it were.
