Mail.app for me

It’s not lost on me either that the first thing I tried to do with Gmail is hook Outlook up to it. I can’t stand using the Web browser for email. And I have both the beta of the new Hotmail as well as Google’s new corporate Gmail and Maryam uses Yahoo’s email (formerly Oddpost). These are the three leading web-based email systems. I know many of you are OK with reading your email on the Web, but I’m too used to having my email offline. It gives me peace of mind to know I’m in control of my access to my email.

Scobleizer - Tech Geek Blogger » Why Ozzie doesn’t think the Web is the be all and end all

Much as I love Gmail I have to agree with scoble that I need to process my mail off-line and have a real problem with the gmail web interface. I get all my gmail delivered into Apples mail.app where I filter and process using multiple rules and create lots of new mailboxes and smart mailboxes to organise my mail.

I just like it that way!

"Fork Handles, no, Fork Handles, Handles for Forks!"

A spokeswoman for Apple Computer on Friday said she was recently misquoted in a comment on the life-span of the company's iPod digital music players.Earlier this week, Chicago Tribune quoted Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris as saying iPods have a relatively low failure rate and that they are designed to last "four years."However, Kerris in a statement to the iLounge on Friday said she was misquoted. The Apple spokeswoman said she told the reporter that the iPod was designed to last "for years," not "four years."

Backup, Backup, Backup

My Powermac G5 has 2 x 250GB hard disks. I use Superduper to backup the system drive overnight to make a bootable copy so if the disk crashes I can be running again in minutes.

I have 2 x 250GB USB2 drives attached to the G5, one primary and one backup. The primary disk holds all my data (well nearly all my data...read on) and is backed up overnight by Superduper to the backup drive.

Oh, and I have another USB2 drive attached to the G5 that holds my iTunes library - 120GB of music............

Guess which drive crashed today!

Sob!

Backup people, backup!!!
